The recent uprising and political awakening of Gen Z in Kenya have illuminated a path forward, challenging the entrenched powers and their disdain for democratic principles. This generation, fueled by unity, resolve, and a keen awareness of political and economic issues, represents a formidable force threatening the status quo.

Generation Z's refusal to be swayed by political rhetoric or bribes signifies a departure from past generations. They are meticulous fact-checkers, basing their decisions on data, science, and truth rather than empty promises. This discernment has unnerved the political establishment, particularly figures like Ruto, who thrive on deception and corruption.

The tragic deaths during recent protests underscore a broader assault on constitutional values and democratic rights. The state's heavy-handed response revealed a contempt for the people it is meant to serve, raising serious doubts about leadership judgment and temperament.

Ruto's historical opposition to the 2010 Constitution reflects his discomfort with being held accountable and restrained by its provisions. His response to Gen Z's protests with arrogance and belated concessions reflects a disconnect from the aspirations of Kenya's youth.

Yet, Generation Z embodies the optimism enshrined in Kenya's Constitution, celebrating diversity and asserting their sovereign power as the rightful custodians of the nation's future. Their occupation of Parliament symbolizes a rejection of ineffective representation and a demand for genuine leadership.

While Ruto's reluctant retreat in the face of public outcry came too late for those who paid the ultimate price, it signifies a turning point. As Jonathan Kariara's poem poignantly reminds us, the journey towards justice may be fraught with darkness, but a brighter dawn beckons.

The sacrifices made by these young protestors must not be in vain. Their courage and resilience are a beacon of hope, inspiring a nation to demand accountability, transparency, and a government that truly serves the people. Generation Z has set the stage for a new era of political engagement in Kenya that demands integrity, inclusivity, and respect for constitutional principles.

In conclusion, the empowerment and mobilization of Generation Z signal a seismic shift in Kenya's political landscape. Their unwavering commitment to justice and democracy heralds a future where all Kenyans, regardless of background or status, can thrive in a society built on fairness, equality, and genuine representation.
