Gen Z Wanderlust Dreams: Here is How to Confirm Your Green Card Application Status
The Entrant Status Check for DV-2024 applicants will remain accessible until September 30, 2025.
In recent developments, the U.S. Department of State has introduced a portal for participants in the DV-2025 green card program to verify the status of their applications, determining whether they were successful. This news comes when there's a growing sentiment among Gen Z, with four out of five expressing a desire to leave the country.
The registration window for the DV-2025 Program, also commonly referred to as the green card lottery, commenced on October 4, 2023, and concluded on November 7, 2023. During this period, many Gen Z individuals seized the opportunity to apply, eager to explore opportunities abroad.
Typically, applicants receive notifications regarding the outcome of their applications, whether they were approved or not, through the U.S. Department of State website. However, the sentiment among Gen Z towards leaving the country has sparked discussions about the future of the nation's youth and their aspirations for international opportunities.
As of May 4, 2024, the U.S. Department of State has launched the portal for DV-2025 applicants to review their statuses. The Entrant Status Check for DV-2024 applicants will remain accessible until September 30, 2025.

Successful applicants
Those whose green card applications were successful have been notified of the dates when their visa interviews at the U.S. Embassy are scheduled.
Note that even if your green card application was successful you can still be denied a U.S. visa if your interview at the Embassy is unsuccessful.
Unsuccessful green card applicants
If your green card application was not successful, you can still try your luck again in the DV-2026 program whose application will begin in October 2024.
After the applicants for the DV-2025 program are selected, the U.S. Department of State will open the DV-2026 program for applicants to apply.
There is a limited time during which one can register for the Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Program during each fiscal year.
Note, that green card lottery registration is usually done two years ahead, between October and November.
For instance, the DV-2026 program will open between October and November 2024 and applicants will know the status of their application in May 2025.
Other ways to relocate to the U.S.
Green card application offers an ordinary person the chance of permanently relocating to the US. Only 55,000 people worldwide who apply for green cards are allowed into the U.S.
The Diversity Lottery Program (green card) makes available up to 55,000 permanent resident visas annually to persons from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
Millions of other applicants unfortunately usually have to contend with remaining in their countries or seek alternative ways of relocating to America.
Applying for a green card is not the only path to entering the US for those with dreams of relocating to the world's biggest economy.
Other paths can lead to legal entry into the US and potential permanent residency or citizenship even if your green card application is rejected.
These include; Family-based immigration which allows US citizens and residents to sponsor relatives like spouses, children, siblings, and parents.
Work visas are available for skilled foreign workers, including the popular H1B visas for tech professionals.
Student visas (F and M) permit academic or vocational studies, though with limitations for permanent residency. Investors can obtain visas by investing in US businesses.
Additionally, asylum can be sought at a US port of entry or within the country for those facing persecution based on various factors, including race or political opinions. Refugees receive similar protections from outside the US.
