Chef wa Eastlando: Cooking Up Success Behind the Mask
The masked culinary content creator says he is committed to maintain his anonymity.
While in this social media era, crafting a personal brand, is deemed essential for success, content creator Chef wa Eastlando is defying the convention by opting for anonymity.
The burgeoning luminary in the digital sphere has deliberately kept his true identity under wraps where he dorns a huge helmet to conceal his face in his videos.
Popular for his TikTok videos incorporated with Sheng’—a blend of English and Swahili slang—voiceovers, the creator whose content is primarily centred around culinary delights, has garnered substantial acclaim, with some videos garnering over 500,000 views.
Speaking in a podcast, Chef Wa Eastlando provided insight into their choice to maintain anonymity.
“I enjoy the freedom of being treated like any other person,” he told Sandwich Podcast.
Adding; “Although I’m famous for my content, I don’t want my freedom compromised.”
While comparing his lifestyle to popular celebrities like comedian Eric Omondi, Chef Wa Eastlando highlighted the downsides of fame.
“Comedian Eric Omondi cannot leave his place without being recognised and disturbed by people. That’s what I’m avoiding,” he explained adding that he remains committed to protecting his identity.
“I don’t like what comes with fame. I prefer my life as it was before.”
Further, he revealed he aspires to pursue his passion for fashion and design.
“Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, I couldn’t attend high school,” he shared.
“My dream is to become a fashion designer. I have a deep passion for the field and dedicate a lot of my time to it. I also attended an Arabic school, where I learned the language, thanks to my mother who was a teacher.”

Foi Wamboi has opened up about her latest project ‘Shanga’.
'Shanga' marks the debut of a fresh Kenyan television series, in which she takes the lead role of Soilan, a 21-year-old native of Lemurat.
“This is my first show playing a lead actress,” Foi noted adding;
“Soi learns stitching and has a shop where she makes clothes and also does beadwork. She is in love with a renowned Maasai Moran named Ledama, with whom she grew up. Generally, Soi is a sweet person who is loving, kind, and selfless.”
Foi reveals that for her to take the role, she had to learn the Maasai language.
“Being one of the three main characters, coming from a Bantu background and learning a Nilotic language has been incredibly interesting. I felt the need to push myself even more. My tongue adapted quickly to speak the Ma language. When I learned about the lead role, I was both excited and nervous, grappling with imposter syndrome, but the excitement prevailed.”
“It has been an incredible journey having fantastic people working with us. We have people who were teaching us the language and it was very engaging and the person who was teaching us was very patient with us,” she said.
Reflecting on her character, Foi found some similarities with her real-life persona.
“You will always find similarities, and that’s the beauty of humanity. I am also very giving, much like Soi. I see a young Foi in her,” she shared.
With 130 episodes planned for its first season, ‘Shanga’ which drops today promises to be a captivating watch for its fans.
Foi encourages viewers to expect honesty and something different from the show.
“Our fans should expect honesty and something different and I am doing this show in the most honest way that I can.”
The new series will replace the popular show, ‘Salem’ and will air on Maisha Magic Plus every Monday to Friday at 8:00 p.m., accessible on DStv Channel 163 and GOtv Channel 3.
